The Greenock Sheriff Court building opened to the public in November 1869 and was also the jail house until 1910.
The architecture is based on the old Scottish style of the 16th Century. It serves a population of approximately 43,000 people. The Justice of the Peace Court was established in the same building in December 2009.

Greenock Sheriff and Justice of the Peace Court is situated in Nelson Street near to the town centre and public transport links. Use the journey planner for public transportation information.
By bus
The nearest bus station is Kilblain Street. This is a short walk (approximately 400 metres) from the court house. There are many different bus companies which serve the Greenock area. Use the Journey Planner for transportation information.
By rail
The nearest train station is Greenock West Station at the corner of Newton/Inverkip Street. The station is a short walk (approximately 500 metres) from the courthouse. Visit scotrail or national rail enquiries for train times.
By car
There is no public car parking available at this court. Nelson Street and the surrounding streets to the court house are all free parking.
By taxi
The taxi ranks are near to the railway station and also near to the bus station mentioned above.
By air
The nearest airport is Glasgow Airport - approximately 16 miles from Greenock.
On arrival
On arrival, please report to the main reception desk inside the main doors. There is a disabled entrance at the left hand side of the building with an "assistance bell", please ring this on arrival at the building.

Wheelchair users can access the building through the disabled entrance, which is situated to the left hand side of the building. All our courts are on the ground floor. Our reception desk can assist you with any enquiries.
Facilities
A Beanfeast charity tea bar is available within the sheriff court house. It is located in the court 2 complex and is open until about 13:00 each day.
If you are selected to sit on a jury, lunch and refreshments will be provided for you throughout the day.
A loop induction service is available in all courtrooms for people who have hearing difficulties. Please contact any court official if you require to use this facility.
