Difficulty using the phone

Phone interpreter

A phone interpreter service is available when you contact a court by phone or attend in person. To access this service ask for phone interpreter and the language required.

The phone interpreter service is not available during actual court proceedings.

The Sheriff Clerk's office is open Monday to Friday:

  • 09:00 to 13:00
  • 14:00 to 16:00

Closing times

Please note our offices will close at 13:00 on the last Friday of every month for staff training. The building will only remain open until the day's court business is finished on these days.

Cycle parking racks can be found to the side of the adjacent West Dunbartonshire Council buildings on CycleStreets cycle parking map.

The nearest train station is Dumbarton central station which is a five minute walk from the court. Visit ScotRail or National Rail Enquiries for train times.

There is a public car park within the grounds of the court house and several disabled parking spaces at the front of the building. There are also several free car parks within a short distance of the court building.

There is a taxi rank just off the High Street in Dumbarton town centre, which is within a few minutes walk of the court building.

The nearest airport is Glasgow Airport which is approximately 12 miles away.

On arrival

On arrival, please report to the main reception desk. You will be directed from there as to where you need to go within the building. On occasion you may be asked to pass through airport type screening and your bags or briefcases may be searched.

Jurors on a jury

If you are attending for jury duty please report to the main reception desk where you will be directed to a court or waiting room. If you are sitting on a jury, lunch and refreshments will be provided for you if the court sits into the afternoon.

Facilities

There is a cafe/tea bar on the ground floor (near the reception desk) which provides light refreshments. This is open from 09:00 to 13:30. There are also a number of local cafés and restaurants near to the court building.

Accessibility

Accessible hearing

A loop induction service is available in all courtrooms for people who have hearing difficulties. Please contact the main reception desk if you require to use this facility. The public offices also have a loop system available at the public counters.

Accessible access

Wheelchair users can access the building through the main entrance. A lift is available for access to the first floor which is where the court rooms are located. The public offices are on the ground floor of the building.
