Scottish Court Service Board Member Recruitment

Feb 06, 2014

Could you contribute to setting the strategic direction of the Scottish Court Service during a period of major reform to the Scottish justice system?

The Lord President is seeking to appoint a member of the SCS Board who is not a judicial office holder or a practicing solicitor or advocate.  Applications are invited from individuals who have the drive and enthusiasm to make a significant contribution to the delivery of justice in Scotland.

In addition to membership of the SCS Board, the successful applicant will chair the SCS Audit Committee, which supports the Board in discharging its responsibilities in relation to issues of risk, control and governance by reviewing and challenging the comprehensiveness, reliability and integrity of assurances provided to them by the SCS Chief Executive (Accountable Officer).

The Scottish Court Service provides support to the judiciary and courts to enable the efficient and effective operation of the court system.  Over the next few years the SCS will be pursuing a range of improvement projects and programmes and will play a leading role in introducing the most radical set of reforms to the justice system in Scotland for over a century.

The Board of the SCS is led by the Lord President of the Court of Session and has a collective responsibility for setting the strategic direction of the SCS and ensuring its good governance.   The Board’s vision is to “Build a Stronger Scottish Court Service” and it is actively committed to working with other justice organisations, the Scottish Government and the users of court services as it pursues its reform agenda.
