The Judicial Office for Scotland came into being on the 1 April 2010 as part of the structural changes introduced by the Judiciary and Courts (Scotland) Act 2008. It is a separate part of the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service and was created to provide support to the Lord President in his role as head of the Scottish judiciary with responsibility for the training, welfare, deployment, guidance and conduct of judges and the efficient disposal of business in the courts.
The Office incorporates the Lord President’s Private Office, Judicial Communications, the staff of the Judicial Institute and a section dealing with Strategy and Governance.
