Case description

[1]        On 20 June 2025 in the High Court of Justiciary at Glasgow, the respondent was convicted of two charges: (1) attempted murder by assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, permanent impairment and danger of life; and (2) attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

[2]        On 18 July 2025, the respondent was sentenced to periods of 9 and 2 years’ imprisonment respectively, to be served concurrently.

[3]        The Crown appeals on the grounds of undue leniency. They argue that the sentencing judge erred in his assessment of the seriousness of the offending, that a more severe sentence was necessary and that an extended sentence was appropriate in the circumstances.

[4]        The appeal will be heard by the High Court of Justiciary Appeal Court on Wednesday 14 January 2026 at 10:30am.
