The historic Opening of the Legal Year ceremony is an annual event during which the Lord President reflects on the work of the courts and the Judiciary over the last 12 months and sets out the aims and ambitions for the year ahead.

The ceremony provides an opportunity for the Lord President to welcome newly appointed King’s Counsel, while the Dean of the Faculty of Advocates and the President of the Law Society of Scotland are also invited to make a speech.
