Storm Babet update 19 October 2023

Oct 19, 2023

Due to the Met Office extending the red weather warning, covering parts of Dundee and Perth, the decision has been taken to close both Dundee and Perth Sheriff Courts.  This will ensure everyone is able to get home safely before the red warning comes in to force. Both Courts will remain closed tomorrow (Friday 20 October).  As previously announced, Forfar Sheriff Court closed at 1pm today and will also remain closed tomorrow.

Contingency arrangements are being made in relation to business that was due to call in these courts on the dates in question.

As courts and tribunals are essential public services they continue to operate in areas where an amber weather warning is in force.  We advise all those travelling to court to keep up to date with the latest weather information and advice, to ensure their journey is safe.  Courts in the red weather warnings have been closed to ensure that there is no need to travel to attend court business.

What to expect (information from the Met Office Website)

  • Danger to life from fast flowing or deep floodwater
  • Extensive flooding to homes and businesses
  • Collapsed or damaged buildings or structures
  • Road closures and bus and train service delays and cancellations
  • Dangerous driving conditions because of spray and flooded roads
  • Loss of power and other essential services, such as gas, water and mobile phone service
  • Communities completely cut off, perhaps for several days

What should I do?  (Information from the Met Office Website)
