Vacancy for Independent Non-Executive Member - Audit & Risk Committee

Does having the opportunity to contribute to ensuring high standards of governance and scrutiny of the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service (SCTS) during a period of major reform of the Scottish justice system appeal to you?

SCTS requires an independent, non-executive member to join its Audit and Risk Committee.  If you have the knowledge, skills and experience in governance, finance and accountability at a senior level and have the enthusiasm to make a significant contribution to the delivery of justice in Scotland, we would welcome an application from you.

SCTS provides support to the judiciary and to courts, tribunals and the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) to enable the efficient and effective operation of the justice system.  SCTS is currently pursuing a range of reforms intended to improve the operation of Scotland’s justice system and the service provided to all those who use it – further information on our work can be found in our Corporate Plan 2023-26 and on our website.

The Audit & Risk Committee (ARC) supports the Board in its responsibilities in relation to issues of risk, control and governance by reviewing and challenging the comprehensiveness, reliability and integrity of assurances provided to them by the SCTS Accountable Officer (the Chief Executive).

Applicants should have experience of working at a senior level in a public sector, commercial or voluntary organisation and be able to demonstrate the ability to contribute effectively to the work of the Audit and Risk Committee of a large public sector organisation.

A professional accountancy qualification from one of the UK’s Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) or equivalent is essential.  The vacancy requires experience of working in audit, risk or assurance and involvement in transformational delivery or change.  Experience of digital/cyber security would be highly desirable but is not essential.

Appointment is for a fixed-term period of four years, renewable once, for a further period of up to four years, by mutual consent.  You will be expected to attend four meetings of the Committee per year, which are generally held in Edinburgh.  Additional meetings may be required from time to time.  Membership attracts remuneration of £344 per day.

For more information on this vacancy, including details on how to apply, please see the Role Description and Background Information and Role Application Form.

Interviews will be held on 10 March 2025 in Parliament House, Parliament Square, Edinburgh.  The closing date for applications is midnight on 16 February 2025

If you have any questions regarding the role please email Steven D’Arcy (sdarcy@scotcourts.gov.uk) or Karen Lawrie (klawrie@scotcourts.gov.uk).
