SCTS Guest Wi-Fi Update

We are continuing to progress Wi-Fi improvements in SCTS buildings for court users, and has recently doubled the Wi-Fi bandwidth and quadrupled the time available before each session expired.

Wi-Fi connectivity within the Scottish Courts and Tribunals (SCTS) Buildings.

We are continuing to progress Wi-Fi improvements in SCTS buildings for court users. We recently doubled the Wi-Fi bandwidth and quadrupled the time available before each session expired.

At the start of the summer we outlined three prioritised strands of work to further support high quality digital access in all courts and tribunals and committed to providing updates as this work progressed.

  • A further increase in bandwidth for guest users using our current infrastructure

We are currently piloting improvements to our current infrastructure which would increase guest bandwidth from 2mbps to 5mbps (megabits per second). This solution also allows users to access their own organisations’ networks remotely. We are planning to start rolling out this solution across the SCTS estate from 8 December 2023.

  • Wider Wi-Fi coverage – to provide as close as is possible to 100% Wi-Fi coverage in all court and tribunals buildings

In order to achieve this our Wi-Fi infrastructure needs to be replaced. Work is expected to commence by the end of this financial year and will be rolled out across over 50 primary SCTS locations, many with complex building layouts.

  • 4/5G cellular coverage – investigating options to increase 4/5G coverage in all buildings through installation of booster solutions.

We are currently piloting the use of a booster solution and undertaking a survey across all sites, to be completed by the end of March 2024, to understand the full implications of rolling this out across our estate.

We will continue to provide updates on these three strands and are absolutely committed to facilitating digital access through high quality Wi-Fi.
