New temporary President of Social Security Chamber assigned

Andrew Veitch has been assigned temporary president of the Social Security Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland, following an assignment exercise. Andrew Veitch succeeds current temporary Chamber President, Anne Scott, who will stand down from the role on 30 May 2022.

Andrew qualified as a solicitor in 1979 and has substantial tribunal experience. During his career, Andrew has been appointed: as a Child Support Appeals tribunal chairman in 1993; a District Tribunal Judge in the Social Entitlement Chamber in both Cardiff and Scotland; a Convener in the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland in 2007 and as a conciliator with the Disability Conciliation Service. Andrew was also a member of the editorial board of ‘Tribunal’s Journal’ for 6 years, having written articles on tribunal practice and procedure.

This three-year assignment, made by the President of the Scottish Tribunals Lord Woolman, takes effect from 30 May 2022.
