Chamber President First-tier Tribunal for Scotland Vacancy

Jan 11, 2019

The Tribunals (Scotland) Act 2014 has created a simplified statutory framework for JABS tribunals in Scotland, bringing existing tribunal jurisdictions together and providing a structure for new jurisdictions. The Act created two new tribunals, the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland and the Upper Tribunal for Scotland, known collectively as the Scottish Tribunals.

The General Regulatory Chamber was established in January 2018 when the Scottish Charity Appeals Tribunal transferred in to the Scottish Tribunals. The Chamber will be expanded when, subject to Parliamentary approval, the Parking and Bus Lane Adjudicators transfer in on 1 April 2019 and thereafter the Police Appeals Tribunal.

The Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland invites applications from suitably qualified individuals who wish to be considered for appointment to Chamber President of the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland, General Regulatory Chamber. The post is due to commence on 1 April 2019 and is located in George House, 126 George St, Edinburgh.

  • Selection is made solely on merit.
  • The Board encourages and welcomes applications from the widest possible range of eligible individuals.
  • The Board would particularly welcome applications from under-represented groups.

Further information, including eligibility criteria, can be found within the Guidance Note for Applicants and Role Profile or from the Board’s Business Management Unit, Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland, Thistle House, 91 Haymarket Terrace, Edinburgh EH12 5HD, telephone 0131 528 5101, mailbox@jabs.gsi.gov.uk

An online application should be completed and submitted no later than midnight on Sunday 27 January 2018. On present plans, the interviews will take place on 4 March 2019 at the Board’s offices in Edinburgh.
