SCS has managed to gain re-accreditation from the Energy Institute and the National Energy Foundation to the Energy Efficiency Accreditation Scheme. This is a nationally recognised scheme, other central government organisations that participate are (National Archives of Scotland, Lothian & Borders Police, HM Prison Service, HM Revenue & Customs).
Over the last six months (April - September) SCS energy consumption has reduced by nearly 3,700,000 kWh compared to the same period last year, the annual growth in electricity consumption has been reduced from 3% to 0.5%, so well done to you all, I'm sure every one contributed a little bit . The reduction in Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions was just under 400 Tonnes, as CO2 is one of the most important gases that effects climate change anything that can be done to reduce CO2 emissions is good.
The Energy Efficiency Accreditation Scheme is the UK's only independent award recognising achievements in reducing energy use by leading organisations in industry, commerce and the public sector. In December 2004, the Scheme became part of the Carbon Trust's portfolio of offerings to UK business and the public sector.
The Carbon Trust now has overall responsibility for the scheme and will coordinate its marketing and future development. Accreditation is awarded by the Energy Institute, the leading professional body for the energy industries and the Scheme is managed by the National Energy Foundation on behalf of the Carbon Trust. To date, over two hundred organisations have gained accreditation by reaching the standards set for the Scheme.
The Scheme was established in 1993 by the Energy Systems Trade Association (ESTA) and the Energy Institute (formerly the Institute of Energy). It was set up to provide independent verification of the achievements of organisations implementing energy efficiency measures. The Scheme was managed by ESTA until 1998 when the National Energy Foundation (NEF) took over responsibility for its management and further development. In November 2004, the Scheme became part of the Carbon Trust's portfolio of offerings to UK business and the public sector.
