The Scottish Court Service’s statement on Diversity is as follows:
"Equality is about treating everyone the same, diversity is about valuing differences. the Scottish Court Service believes a rich mix of people, skills and cultures within the Agency will bring about a greater range of inputs, viewpoints and experiences.
These will generate more ideas, more challenges to traditional thinking and more perspectives from which to see issues affecting the organisation. This will enable the Service to be more responsive to the different needs of all our different customers allowing us to provide a better service to all of the people of Scotland".
The Scottish Court Service is committed to promoting Diversity and in 2005 the Management Board made a decision to adopt the Diversity Excellence Model (DEM). The Diversity Excellence Model provides a framework for Diversity, to help us further mainstream equality and diversity in the SCS. The Model has been used by many public sector organisations including the former Inland Revenue, Ministry of Defence, Crown Prosecution Service and Audit Scotland. It is designed to help organisations assess themselves and measure their progress in managing diversity. The model is structured around key processes and their impact within issues such as leadership, people, policy and strategy, business processes and key performance results.
The Scottish Court Service is progressing with the Diversity Excellence Model over 2006 and further updates will be available on this site.
