Court Fees

04 May 2012 - Review of Fees Charged by the Court of Session, Accountant of Court, Sheriff & Justice of the Peace Courts, High Court, Office of the Public Guardian: A Consultation Paper has now been published on Scottish Government website.

The consultation seeks comments on interim measures for court fees to take account of inflation and further improve cost recovery, pending full implementation of the proposed civil court reforms. Key changes include inflation increases of five per cent from November 1, 2012 and three per cent for both years from April 1, 2013 and April 1, 2014.

Fees payable for various applications at court are laid out by a Statutory Instrument*(referred to as a Fee Order) which in turn is periodically updated by Fee Amendment Orders.

The Scottish Court Service accepts the following forms of payment:

- Cheques - Made payable to "The Scottish Court Service".
- Debit Card & Credit Card - Please check which types of card are acceptable with the appropriate court.
- Postal Order - Made payable to "The Scottish Court Service".
- Cash - If paying by post it is not advisable to make cash payments.
