The Rolls of Court are published every day during Session and on certain days in Vacation (Christmas) and recess (summer and Easter). They show the allocation of civil business in the Court of Session in Edinburgh. The Rolls are numbered sequentially beginning at the start of the summer Vacation and concluding on the last Sederunt (sitting) day of the next summer session, effectively July to July each year. They are prepared by the Keeper of the Rolls in consultation with the Lord President, the Lord Justice Clerk and the Principal Clerk of Session and Justiciary.

There is a "long" Roll published at the beginning of each Session of the Court, normally late September, early January and April, with the already allocated principal business for that Session of the Court e.g. Proofs (hearings where evidence is led), civil jury trials, procedure rolls (legal debates) etc. Appeal rolls for the forthcoming criminal appeal courts are published around this time also. The main weekly Roll is published each Thursday in Session and shows the following weeks allocated business. It also publishes Acts of Sederunt, Practice Notes, Directions and Minutes, which regulate procedures before the Court or notify administrative arrangements. Each daily Roll within Session has the allocated business for the succeeding day per Court or Judge.
