Court Opinions - Court of Session and High Court of Justiciary
Please note not all opinions are published. Only where there is a significant point of law or particular public interest will the details be published. The earliest such case is dated September 1998.
Sentencing statements, summaries of court opinions and the findings of fatal accident enquiries are published on http://www.scotland-judiciary.org.uk/2/0/Judgments-And-Sentences or you can use this page to search for published opinions.
These pages will be updated at approximately 2.00 pm on any day on which new opinions are to be published.There are three ways in which you can search the on-line documents.
- Keyword Search
The keyword search will search the full text of all the opinions that have been published on the Internet for the keywords that you enter. Please Note* the Keyword Search will search ALL cases on the Website including those from the Sheriff Courts as well as those for the Court of Session and the High Court.
- Neutral Citation Search
The Neutral Citation search will search the full text of all the opinions that have been published on the Internet for the citation number that you enter. Please Note* This is a text search which may occasionally not return the document sought.
- Structured Search
For the structured search we have categorised the opinions by type, date, name of judge or judges, pursuer/appellant, defender/respondent and type of action, and you can search for opinions within these categories. You can view a list of the types of action that are available.
- 50 Most Recent cases
The final search lists the 50 most recent opinions posted to the web site. Note that the 'most recent' selection is based on the Date Uploaded as opposed to the Date Uploaded as opposed to the Date of Opinion.
