Scottish Civil Justice Council - Recruitment of Members

Mar 28, 2013

The recruitment process for appointing members to the Scottish Civil Justice Council began today, with positions for advocate, solicitor, consumer representative and LP members (discretionary appointments which can be made by the Lord President) being advertised and applications sought by noon, Monday 15 April.

It is intended that the Scottish Civil Justice Council, which will replace the current Court of Session and Sheriff Court Rules Councils, will be established in May 2013 when the Scottish Government brings into force the relevant provisions of The Scottish Civil Justice Council and Criminal Legal Assistance Act 2013.

The Lord President, The Right Hon Lord Gill, said:
“I am delighted to announce that the recruitment of members to the Scottish Civil Justice Council is underway.
The new Council will be responsible delivering improvements to the civil justice system, including implementation of the many procedural changes required by the forthcoming civil courts reforms.
In order that it may fulfil its functions most effectively, it is vital that the Council has the most appropriate range of skills and expertise available to it. I encourage all those with the necessary skills and knowledge who wish to contribute to the development of the civil justice system in Scotland to apply.”

Application packs are available here.

Background

The Lord President issued a Statement of Appointment Practice in respect of appointments to the Council on 12 March 2013.

The Scottish Civil Justice Council and Criminal Legal Assistance Act 2013 is available here.
