Judiciary and Courts (Scotland) Bill.

The Scottish Parliament passed a Bill on 25 September which will the Lord President of the Court of Session as head of the Scottish judiciary, with responsibility for the efficient disposal of business throughout the courts. It makes him responsible for the welfare, guidance and training of the entire judiciary, and for ensuring the investigation of complaints about judicial conduct.

The Bill also provides for the establishment of the Scottish Court Service (SCS) as a separate statutory body. The Lord President will Chair the new SCS with a majority of the judiciary on its governing body. SCS staff will continue to be civil servants. The Bill will now be presented for Royal Assent.
