North Strathclyde - Unification
From today (Monday 14 December), the Scottish Court Service is responsible for the administration of the former District Courts in the Sheriffdom of North Strathclyde.
The Courts will operate as Justice of the Peace Courts and are located at Campbeltown, Dumbarton, Dunoon, Greenock, Irvine, Kilmarnock, Lochgilphead, Oban and Paisley.

Newspaper Articles 15/16 July 2009
In response to recent newspaper articles which have speculated that 19 courts could close across Scotland, the Scottish Court Service has responded emphasising that there are no proposals to close sheriff courts in Scotland.
Along with other public bodies the Scottish Court Service is planning for a future in which public sector spending is likely to see significant reduction.
A discussion paper had been put before the Strategic Board to illustrate the possible impact of different financial scenarios, regardless of whether they were considered achievable or desirable. This internal working document was leaked to and reported by the media.
Once the budget settlement for future years is known the Scottish Court Service Strategic Board will require to agree any future business model in conjunction with the judiciary and other justice colleagues. - 17/06/2009 -
SSD and G Unification
Following the Justice Committee's vote on 5 May the Order for unification of court administration in South Strathclyde Dumfries and Galloway has been revoked. Eric McQueen, Director of the Scottish Court Service said: "SCS is committed to the unification of courts administration within the Sheriffdom of South Strathclyde, Dumfries and Galloway but following the revocation of the order for unification, we must now reflect and consider the matters raised by the Justice Committee. - 14/05/2009 -

Following the Justice Committee?s vote on 5 May last week the Order for unification of court administration in South Strathclyde Dumfries and Galloway has been revoked. Fines Enforcement Campaign.
A campaign to encourage fine defaulters to pay gets underway today. The campaign, which includes adverts in print and local radio as well as direct marketing and community posters, warns of the the consequences of non payment and the assistance available to those who are in genuine hardship.
