The main contractor for the West
Lothian Civic Centre was announced today (Tuesday 12 December) as international
construction company Laing O’Rourke.
It is expected that work on the building will start on site
from Monday 8 January and will last for approximately 110 weeks.
When it is completed the centre will
provide: a new headquarters for West Lothian Council, which will accommodate
around 600 employees; a Sheriff and District Court complex; and a divisional
police headquarters.
Councillor Graeme Morrice, Leader of West Lothian Council,
commented: “Awarding the contract to Laing O’Rourke is a significant
milestone. By working in partnership we
can deliver better quality services, more efficiently and effectively to the
people West Lothian. Previous successes
such as West Lothian Connected and the Strathbrock Partnership Centre are
excellent examples of the benefits that can be achieved through bringing
services together under one roof.”
Superintendent Graeme Dobbie, deputy commander of the West
Lothian Division of Lothian and Borders Police, commented: “We welcome the
announcement of the main contractor for the Civic Centre. The progress achieved so far by working
together on this complex project demonstrates the effectiveness of a
partnership approach for the good of the community.”
Eric McQueen, Director of Field Services, Scottish Court
Service, said: “Bringing public services together under one roof will aid the
delivery of co-ordinated services which will allow for a speedier resolution
for the courts and the accused, ensuring provision and delivery of relevant
services at the most appropriate time.”
Other partners involved in the project include the Crown
Office Procurator Fiscal Service, the Scottish Children’s Reporter
Administration Service, Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service and the
West Lothian Community Health and Care Partnership (CHCP).
