The Right Hon the Lord Mackay of Drumadoon (Donald Sage Mackay)

The Right Hon the Lord Mackay of Drumadoon was appointed a Judge in March 2000. In May 2010 he was appointed to the Inner House.

Lord Mackay was educated at the University of Edinburgh, where he graduated LL.B and LL.M, and at the University of Virginia, where he graduated LL.M. Lord Mackay was admitted as a solicitor in 1971 and practised for five years as such.

In 1976 he was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates1. He served as an Advocate Depute2 from 1982 to 1985, and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1987. Lord Mackay served as a member of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board from 1989 to 1995. He was appointed Solicitor General for Scotland3 in 1995. From 1995 to 1997 he served as Lord Advocate4. He was made a life peer in 1995 and became a Privy Counsellor in 1996. Between May 1997 and March 2000 he combined practice as a senior counsel with an active role in the House of Lords.
